Dr. Tom Beall, DVM and Dr. Sophi Franck, DVM
Dr. Tom Beall and Dr. Sophi Franck purchased Homestead Small Animal Practice, P.C. in January of 2002. Both are 1999 graduates of Iowa State University with degrees in Veterinary Medicine. They worked in veterinary practices in Las Vegas, NV after graduating and prior to moving to Spencer, IA. While each enjoys all aspects of veterinary medicine, they also have their own special interests. Dr. Beall's interest and training is in diagnosing canine hip dysplasia (PennHip certified), as well as soft tissue and orthopedic surgery. Dr. Franck has a special interest in internal medicine and acupuncture.
While at home they enjoy spending free time with their three daughters,Labrador, one cat and two guinea pigs.

Dr. Lisa Wilhelm, DVM
Lisa grew up in Keokuk, Iowa. She earned her veterinary
degree from Iowa State University in 2002. Prior to joining the Homestead team, she worked at small animal hospitals in Wisconsin and Illinois.
Lisa and her husband are servants to a clowder of six spoiled cats: Tweety Bird, Puddy, Sergio the Gorgeous, Uncle Terry, Forrest, and Tweek. The kitties have begrudgingly allowed their humans to share their home with a "Heinz 57" breed dog named Nova. When she is not at work, Lisa enjoys spending time with her cats, gardening, reading, stamping,crochet and going for walks with Nova and her husband.
Lisa's professional interests include pain management, dentistry, soft tissue surgery, and feline medicine and behavior. Her professional memberships include the American Association of Feline Practitioners and the Veterinary Information Network.

Dr. David F. Merkley BA DVM MS DACVS
Dr Merkley was born in Minnesota and grew up in South Dakota in a family of large animal veterinarians. He attended the University of South Dakota (USD) and received a BA in mathematics. He attended Iowa State University (ISU) for his degree in veterinary medicine (DVM). His surgical training was obtained at Michigan State University (MSU) where he obtained an MS in veterinary surgery and completed a residency in small animal veterinary surgery (orthopedic and soft tissue). He obtained certification by the American College of Veterinary Surgeons (ACVS) in 1977 by examination. He has spent over 35 years in veterinary surgical education and providing referral surgical services at MSU and then ISU. In 2004 he began surgical consulting with private veterinary practices in eastern Nebraska, southeastern South Dakota, western Iowa and southwestern Minnesota. In 2006 he established Veterinary Surgical Specialists of Nebraska PC (VSSON) to formalize his relationships with the practices he has been associated with. He provides small animal surgical services in both orthopedic and soft tissue surgery. |

Barb Walker
I started working at Homestead in 2003 as a receptionist/vet assistant. I've been in the Spencer area since 1986. When we are not spending time with our springer spaniel Sadie, my husband Gary and I enjoy road trips on our Harley. In my quiet time I enjoy quilting, reading and watching movies. |

Amy Orwig
My name is Amy Orwig. I have been working here at Homestead Small Animal Practice since 2007. I was born and raised in Kansas City , KS. I moved to Greenville, IA with my husband Kyle in 2007. We have a 5 year old son named Evan and a newborn son named Braxton. I have worked in the small animal veterinary field since 2005. I have 3 dogs of my own; Lola an American Bulldog, Kelvey a Shih-tzu and Zee a Boston Terrier. A domestic medium hair cat named Cole and a short haired tabby cat named Carter complete our family.
In my free time I enjoy spending time with friends, watching movies and shopping. |

Brooke Roth
I grew up in Ruthven and graduated from Ruthven Ayrshire in 2005. I attended La James beauty school in Mason City. I am part owner of House of Hair. I have worked at Homestead since February 2010. I enjoy both of my jobs and have met many amazing people! I have 2 Chihuahuas, Lilly and Ella. I enjoy fashion, shopping, spending time with family and friends, working out, learning, and being creative. |

Jenn Gray
In August of 2010 I joined the Homestead team. I was born and raised in the Spencer area and attended and graduated from the Spencer School system. In my free time I enjoy spending time with my sons Evan and Benson, reading and watching movies. |

Linda Selk
Linda loves working with animals. She joined Homestead in May 2003. She has had many cats, dogs and birds over the years. Currently she shares her home with two 14 ½ year old cats, a black and white named Shorty and his sister a dilute calico named Daisy. Linda loves to read and do jigsaw puzzles. She enjoys shopping at thrift shops, garages sales and flea markets to find new items for her collections. |

Jessica Odor
I started working at Homestead in November 2010. I was born and raised right here in Spencer. After graduating from SHS in 2002, I went to UNI and earned a BA in history with a minor in theatre. My daughter was born in 2008. I am currently in the Medical Assistant Program at the Iowa Lakes Community College. If I have any free time left, you can usually find me playing with my daughter, reading, being with friends, or singing karaoke.

Charlie
Charlie is a recovered paraplegic who lives at the clinic. He enjoys his job of napping at the front desk, following us around "supervising" and checking on hospitalized patients. In his spare time he likes to go home with different staff members and cuddle. He is our "PR" man. He's very personable and loves everyone! |
